Heart & Emotion II

A reader asked for "a more detailed discussion of emotion and your concept of heart motive" in the Thoughts on Heart, Emotions and Manifesting post.

Emotion

It's my belief that life is about learning. My feelings and emotions are reflected back to me as part of a learning experience. They often show up in my life as situations, interactions or experiences which may elicit the same feeling or emotion. In that moment of having the experience I also have the opportunity to choose another perspective or feeling. After enough cycles of feeling-reflected experience-choice-feeling I may learn the lesson and make a permanent internal shift. With that lesson learned I move onto the next.

So far, my lessons have been about dropping the ego inflating or supporting emotions. Emotions like neediness, jealousy, control and fear all get in the way of the bigger lesson. The bigger lesson being to Just Be. Whatever stands between myself and just being is the lesson of the day.

Thankfully, I've got an eternity to learn these things. I've been through many years (lifetimes?) of this cycling. Luckily, I have come across techniques that help speed up the learning process. All it takes is a simple shift in perspective. And that is where the heart comes into the picture.

Heart

The heart is definitely much more than a pump. In fact, Researchers are discovering the heart directly influences the brain, our emotions, perceptions and intuition.

I access the power and intelligence of the heart by placing my attention in it with a sense of appreciation. Specifically, I use a method called heart breathing. It connects my awareness of my breathing with attention in my heart. Coupling heart breathing with a feeling of appreciation has been very effective for getting a handle on the ego related emotions. The shift in perspective also helps dissolve the barriers to Just Being.

Why did I write about emotion and heart in the previous post? The heart is a practical "tool" humans can access as part of their life on Earth. As I've been practicing this perspective over the years, synchronicity has become the norm in my daily life. Life tends to flow easier. I've been able to be present in the moment more often. Intuitions are getting stronger. Just Being even happens on occasion. I believe it's how we are designed to live. It feels right.
